Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Welcome to the APITA Congress.

Since our first meeting in 2019, APITA has progressed through the steady efforts and commitment of many colleagues across the region. It is especially meaningful that we are now meeting for the fifth time, reflecting how the field—and our community—have grown together over the past few years.

Pancreas and islet transplantation remain important treatment options for selected patients with diabetes, particularly those requiring insulin therapy. While these therapies have been more widely established in Western countries, their role in Asia continues to grow, supported by increasing clinical experience and academic interest. APITA was founded with the goal of sharing this experience across countries and centers in Asia and building a collaborative network in this field. Through ongoing exchange and cooperation, we aim to strengthen regional expertise and contribute to the broader advancement of pancreas and islet transplantation.

At the same time, we recognize that challenges remain. Limited awareness and the relatively low utilization of deceased donor organ donation in some regions continue to hinder the growth of pancreas transplantation. These are issues we must address together, step by step. This meeting brings together colleagues from across Asia and beyond who are working in pancreas and islet transplantation. We hope it will provide a practical and meaningful opportunity to share experiences, discuss current issues, and learn from one another.

I would like to thank all APITA members whose dedication has sustained this society, as well as everyone who contributed to organizing this meeting. I also extend my sincere respect to all healthcare professionals who continue their work in transplantation.

Thank you for joining us. I hope you have a productive and enjoyable meeting in Seoul.

Warm regards, Young Hoon Kim
President, the 5th Congress of APITA 2026
